Spunkie the Monkey was born 03-31-08 to a contest holder at Webmaster-Talk. I did not win that contest and my monkey was left without a home and no name.
I grow attached to my characters. Maybe you think that makes me crazy but you wouldn't be the first one to think so.
Having a mascot is fun. I can use him on all my ads, avatars and signature tags. I plan on designing a t-shirt soon with my logo. He'll be there too ; )
So, I adopted him and realized that the time it takes to create a mascot itself is worth more than that contest offered. I was ripping myself off. My last few mascot designs have gone for $100+ and they're worth it. That doesn't mean I won't work for $40 anymore, just that I won't compete for it with mascot design.
